Villa Renata

Sits high in the hills of the Casentino,in the National Park of Foreste Casentinesi, a beautiful wooded region which runs between Pratovecchio in the north and Arezzo to the south. A very old stone farmhouse with a deeply Tuscan personality, it has been very nicely restored and discreetly updated with a range of modern amenities. The traditional terracotta floors and beamed ceilings remain, and every room is a step or two higher or lower than its neighbour.

The furnishings combine very nice antiques with comfortable modern pieces. A paved swimming pool and a large, furnished loggia are set above the house on a sweep of lawn, enjoying superb views of the countryside. There is a magical quality about the Casentino, birthplace of Michelangelo, sometime home to Dante Alighieri and site of several influential medieval monasteries and abbeys.

Neighbourhood:

In the green heart of FORESTE CASENTINESI NATIONAL PARK, a large protected area in the Apennines of Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, including the largest and best preserved woodlands and forests in Italy, and housing a great heritage of flora and fauna: wolves and golden eagles among predators, and many species of ungulates. The forests and a number of natural habitats are the setting of the signs of the millenary human presence: small villages, mule tracks, and above all the two charming sanctuaries of Camaldoli and La Verna.

The villa is 2km/1 mile away from the village of Rassina. A beautiful roads winds 17km/11 miles up to the monastery of La Verna, where St. Francis of Assisi received the stigmata. 7km/4 miles north of Rassina is Bibbiena, a peaceful hill town, with pretty fortified Poppi another 7km/4 miles beyond. To the south there is Arezzo, 25km/15 miles,a very nice city with its spectacular Piazza Grande and a monthly antiques market.
